10 Words You Mispronounce That Make People Think... →
I propose these additions: jewelry is “jew-el-ry” not “jool-ry”, orange and mirror are two syllables (not “ornge” and “meer,”) and interesting is “in-tress-ting” not “in-te-res-ting.”

Jane Austen defines #humblebrag in 1813
Darcy: Nothing is more deceitful than the appearance of humility. It is often only carelessness of opinion, and sometimes an indirect boast.
Bingley: And which of the two do you call my little recent piece of modesty?
Darcy: The indirect boast; for you are really proud of your defects in writing, because you consider them as proceeding from a rapidity of thought and carelessness of execution, which if not estimable, you think at least highly interesting. The power of doing anything with quickness is always much prized by the possessor, and often without any attention to the imperfection of the performance. When you told Mrs. Bennet this morning that if you ever resolved on quitting Netherfield you should be gone in five minutes, you meant it to be a sort of panegyric, of compliment to yourself -- and yet what is there so very laudable in a precipitance which must leave very necessary business undone, and can be of no real advantage to yourself or any one else?

It is always so distracting to me when actors playing office assistants, temps, secretaries and the like are incapable of stuffing envelopes (or doing any other kind of menial office task) efficiently or believably. If Stanley Tucci can learn to chop vegetables like a professional chef for Frankie & Johnnie, surely you can figure out how to stuff an envelope? It’s so distracting. I keep...

Wow. In addition to being reblogged by all my favorite JA Tumblogs (what?!), my post of kyetxian’s DeviantArt image, “Jane Austen for N00Bs” was featured in Tumblr’s #Lit collection. Talk about humbling, and I didn’t even draw the darn thing!

Netflix GETS me
theotherausten: All my favorite movies are in the “Witty Romantic Movies Featuring a Strong Female Lead” section. Jane Austen, Merchant-Ivory movies, Kissing Jessica Stein, Quills. Myers-Briggs is no longer relevant. Let’s define our personalities by Netflix ‘suggestions’! So. Are Mine. The first time I saw that, I had an existential crisis because… how does Netflix know me so well?

10 Things 90s Kids Will Have To Explain To Their... →
9. Lisa Frank is not the name of a woman, it is the name of a movement, a culture, a way of living. It is a theory, a concept, a belief in something greater than yourself. It is the belief that all girls are entitled to dolphins covered with rainbows, jewel-encrusted frogs, and unicorns in acid-trip colors hugging each other. I am a child of the nineties. I can’t wait until all this...
